We soon see that this is true, when she calls Holden out on some of his issues, accusing him of not liking anything and not having any direction in life. Her dialogue with Holden demonstrates that she is exceedingly intelligent for her age, and her worries about Holden signify how much she understands his the situation. Mr. Antolini He is the most inscrutable character in Holden’s world. He was a teacher of Holden’s at Elkton Hills (another prep school Holden was kicked out of). We are told that he’s a young guy, just a few years older than Holden’s older brother D.B. Antolini is married to a wealthy, much older woman. At first Antolini seems like a winning human being in Holden’s life. To vouch for his character, Holden tells us that when a student jumped out the window, Antolini felt his pulse and put his coat over the child, and carried him to the infirmary. Antolini lets Holden crash on his couch, and gives him some fantastic advice for the future. However, when Holden awakens, he finds Antolini sitting on the floor next to the couch, stroking his head. It’s a strange move, one that strikes Holden as pervy. Holden makes an excuse to leave and Antolini shifts the weirdness of the overall situation onto Holden, referring to him repeatedly as â€Å"a very very strange boy† (250). Upon reflection, the reader sees that there were signs of Antolini perhaps being attracted to Holden during their conversation (he refers to Holden as handsome, refers to his long legs, asks him about how all the girls were in his life, and does not offer him pajamas or anything to sleep in—so Holden would presumably have to sleep in his underwear). Of course, Holden later wonders if he misread everything and if he should go back to his apartment and say something. The reader is left torn over this character. D.B. He is Holden’s older brother who is a talented writer. However, he has decided to write for Hollywood as a screenwriter, a move that Holden detests, connecting it with prostitution. D.B. visits Holden in the institutionalized care that he is in, and is apparently going to drive him home in his new jaguar when Holden is released. Jane Gallagher Jane is a phantom that exists throughout the novel. She’s a girl that used to be Holden’s neighbor a few summers ago. She’s clearly someone who matters a tremendous amount to him, as he has nothing bad to say about her. We are told she used to be a very disciplined ballet dancer and that when they played checkers, she’d keep all her kings in a row in the back and never use them. Holden toys with the idea of giving her a call numerous times throughout the novel, but never does, to our knowledge. One can conclude that Holden’s inability to process emotions, his active defense mechanisms, and his fear of intimacy all prevent him from reaching out to Jane. Allie Caufield Allie is perhaps the most important character in the novel, next to Holden. Allie died from leukemia when he was eleven and Holden was thirteen. Holden makes Allie sound like an angel—that he was the smartest, nicest kid ever. Holden tells us, â€Å"His teachers were always writing letters to my mother, telling her what a pleasure it was having a boy like Allie in their class. And they werent just shooting the crap. They really meant it† (50). The death of Allie is the wound that continues to fester inside of Holden and the swirling unchecked and unreckoned with emotions are what motivate so many of Holden’s actions and mania. Quotes   Since Holden is such a witty narrator, the novel is filled with quotable lines. The following collection give the best inventory of Holden’s mental and emotional state at the time of his recollection. â€Å"It was that kind of a crazy afternoon, terrifically cold, and no sun out or anything, and you felt like you were disappearing every time you crossed a road† (8). â€Å"Grand. The third issue related to employment is privatization of companies which are state owned and the fourth major issue is there is exceeding number of aging workforce in the nation. And these are the primary issues which have been identified in Singapore (Cullinane and Dundon, 2014). There are two approaches by which the businesses in Singapore look upon the employment relation issue i.e. the unitarist approach and the pluralist approach. In Unitarist approach there is no such immense concern laid over the resolution of the issue. In this approach it is mentioned that the employment relation issues are not of an inevitable character (Siebert, et al., 2015). They generally occurs at the workplace and will resolve with time is there is no individual focus given over the issue (Burchill, 2014). Where as in the pluralistic approach there is no single control over the parties and there is no specific part to given. In pluralist approach there is a union which is not present in the unitarist approach (Thunnissen, Boselie and Fruytier, 2013). Examination analysis of information The issue related to aged workforce brought mixed reactions in the economy. The government aimed at enhancing the retirement age from the age 60 to 67. And this was a major concern for the companies. As the aged workers were not having a friendly touch with the latest technologies and upgraded software and thus the productivity of the organization suffers. The government was taking this initiative so that more number of foreign workers can be restrict to get employed in the industry and thus the issue of illegal immigrations can be restrict. As there is increased number of illegal immigrants in the country there are various negative implications which are associated with this issue (Varma and Budhwar, 2013). There can be decreased job opportunities for the local residents as the immigrants are ready to work at low wages as compared to the domestic employees. There are various other safety and security issues which are an indirect outcome of the issue. Earlier there was no association or union to listen the grievances of the workers. And thus there arose numerous workplace conflicts and employment relation issues. The other issue that is privatization of the companies was also major issues as the state owned companies are now being privatized. This results into recruitment of the illegal immigrants also at a lower cost which raises the concern of the existing employees of the company (Boxall, 2014). Earlier the unitarist approach was found to be much harmonized way to resolve the workplace and employment relation issues. But with the change in time and development of the pluralist approach, it was found that the companies tried to incorporate this new idea of resolving the conflicts and attain more workplace diversity and workforce commitment. With the change in time the industries are also developing. In present scenario the employees do not have their silent voice against these business approaches. Earlier the unitarist approach worked but it cant have the same support or relevance in current business situation. It is not justified as the time is rapidly changing and there is a need to know that the pluralist approach must be in place. The pluralist approach comprises of the trade unions and these unions are a very much essential part for resolving the employment relation issues. These trade unions help in raising the unsolved issues of the employees, provide them the adequate salaries and introduce policies which support the betterment of the employees (Gollan and Patmore, 2013). There are various contemporary examples which show that now the unitarist approach does not exist anymore and there is a need of other theories and pluralist approach for resolving the employment relation issues. There is a case of AHRI award winners in the year 2009, where it can be clearly stated and identified that in todays time there is a need of the human capital model which will ensures that the application of strategies took place effectively. Now there is much importance given to the industry and the organization. In this award case, Comcare, the Federal Government agency which is a public organization has effectively won this award. The agency was held liable for administering and maintaining the safety and health of the employees at the workplace. The effort which made the agency win this award was the development of the human capital model which ensures that there is rapid and effective organizational change through the HR department. It also assists in encouraging the em ployees and filing up the gaps appeared in the present and past organizational culture. The agency invested its lot of energy, time and capital for building the workforce planning competence. And for appreciating the huge efforts of the agency, it was honored with the AHRI Award Winners 2009. This is the contemporary example which shows that in present time there is a need that the building of employment relations is a must and only the unitarist approach will not work anymore (Nankervis, et al., 2011).
